I can see new horizons, but they are still a little hazy. Gearing up for my colloquium, graduation, and departure to China. How it all happens, and when it all happens- is still unclear. Why does life have to be such a tease?

Best Things I’ve Eaten in January 2012

① Signature Chocolate Cake from Sant Ambreous

Rich chocolate mousse, with a light cloud like consistency, topped with a glorious piece of gold leaf- just in case you weren’t feeling like royalty already. Sant Ambreous has a warm and sophisticated atmospherez, with european charm. There is an air of “we are better then thou” west village elitism, but its worth putting on some lipstick and your game face, to enjoy the food.

②  Madeleine at DBGB Kitchen and Bar

The best part is we weren’t expecting it- the madeleine came to the table warm, nestled between a raisin role and a crescent. Light, lemony warmth with a hint of vanilla. Golden brown shell with a buttery, crumbly center that somehow maintained total moistness. When I go back I am ordering a whole basket.

③ Fries with Saffron Aioli from Taim

Taim is known for their amazing falafel, but seriously check out these fries! Thanks to a good friend’s introduction (@apameloparty) I am totally hooked- and I am not even a fries person. The saffron aioli is best described as liquid gold, it would make cardboard taste good. So that, paired with perfectly fried and lightly salted fries, = TASTE EXPLOSION!

④ Falafel Plater from Taim

The above mentioned “amazing falafel”, made with such care and attention to ingredients you won’t be able to go back to ‘Mamoon’s Falafel’ and that’s saying A LOT.

UrbanRelations.Info: The Pull of #Cities

urbanrelationsinfo:

In the rest of this century, I suspect that getting our cities right will be one of the most pressing of the many lines of research that universities will have to engage with. Why would I make such a strong statement?

Here are the facts. As Burdett and Sujdic note in Living in the Endless City, cities and metropolitan regions make up only 2 percent of the world’s land surface, but they are already lived in by 53 percent of its inhabitants, a figure which is expected to reach 75 percent by 2050. In other words, the 21st century is witnessing the great and final decanting of humanity out of rural areas and into “arrival cities,” to purloin the theme of Doug Saunders’ recent highly readable book. Only this week it was
